Tor-Mex
Red Tortilla Press Tor-Mex about 19 cm Cast Iron for homemade Tortillas
This Tortilla Press in red color, very limited available with us, is something for the eye in the kitchen. You can prepare your corn tortillas with the matching Corn Flour(- Link) choice to make them yourself at home. The press is made of red painted cast iron and weighs about 2kg. In diameter you can flatten up to about 19 cm mass.
This press can really be used for cooking, but we would like to point out, that for everyday or frequent use, silver or black versions from our store are much better. The red lacquer is very sensitive in some places, which is why we point out here, that small individual chipping can occur.
All in all, this Tortilla Press is perfect, more as a decorative item or for use on special occasions.
Care tips
Each press comes with a plastic sheet, that must be placed between the two walls, as the dough must not touch the metal. Before first use, rinse the press with hot water and dry it thoroughly. After use, the press should be relatively clean, and a wipe down with a dry towel should be sufficient. If that is not enough, clean it immediately with hot water and a brush. Rinse it and dry it thoroughly.
Storage / Location
Store your Tortilla Press in a clean, dry place. This is especially important in humid climates where condensation could cause rust.

Recipes
Recipe for corn tortillas (enough for about 12 tortillas):
For the dough mixture: combine 1.5 cups of flour and 1 cup of warm water in a bowl and knead until smooth and well mixed add water if necessary.
Tortilla processing:
- Divide dough into 12 pieces and form balls. Then cover them with a damp cloth.
- Flatten the balls between top and bottom with heavy plates of plastic or metal (if necessary, search for tortilla press here in the store). The tortilla should be 12-14 inches in diameter.
- Heat a skillet (search for tortilla pan here in the store if necessary) over medium heat. Carefully release each tortilla from the pressers. Your tortilla will fry in the pan for about half a minute, flipping every 10 seconds, pack the finished tortillas from the pan directly together in a towel (search for tortilla heat retaining bag here in the store if necessary).
Either fill the tortillas later and fold them over, roll them up, or tear them into pieces without filling and snack on the side.
Bon appetit to you and your family and friends! -
