The corn flour is versatile and can be used to prepare corn tortillas and a variety of other dishes such as gorditas, sopes, arepas, popusas, corn cakes, atole, empanadas, huaraches and more.

The best before date for corn flour is usually 1 - 4 months in the future. This is due to the sea route and handling in Mexico and Europe. Maseca corn flour can still be consumed for several months after the best-before date if stored normally.

Recipe

Recipe for corn tortillas (enough for approx. 12 tortillas):

For the dough mixture: mix 1.5 cups of flour and 1 cup of warm water in a bowl and knead until smooth and well mixed, adding water if necessary.

Processing the tortillas:

- Divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape into small balls. Cover them with a damp cloth.

- Press the balls flat between the top and bottom with heavy sheets of plastic or metal (if necessary, search for tortilla presses here in the store). The tortilla should have a diameter of 12-14 cm.

- Heat a frying pan (search for tortilla pan here in the store if necessary) over a medium heat. Carefully remove each tortilla from the press elements. Fry your tortilla in the pan for approx. half a minute, turning it every 10 seconds, wrap the finished tortillas from the pan directly together in a towel (if necessary, search for tortilla warming bags here in the store).

Either fill the tortillas later and fold over, roll up or tear into pieces without filling and snack on the side.

Can be used for gorditas, sopes, arepas, popusas, corn cakes, atole, empanadas, huaraches and more.
