Also known as Mexican tomato or tomato de fresadilla, they grow in large quantities in Mexico. The skin is inedible and discarded. They have a mildly acidic flavor. They are the main ingredient in salsa verde, the green sauce, and are widely used in Mexican cooking. They are delicious and nutritious. When canned, like these, the tomatillos are delicate, but don't worry, use a slotted spoon and carefully remove them from the can. All the flavor is still there!
