Style

The Mexican motifs of these iron-on patches will make your clothes, backpacks or other fabric surfaces (iron only on cotton, or hand sew on other fabrics) shine with cheerful images and colors. The patches can be easily applied with the conventional method by an iron. Of course, you will find various partly clichéd representations for Mexico in the selection. Due to the flat surface, the iron-on pictures can also be used without ironing as decoration on tablecloths of party tables. Some also cover canvases or picture frames with fabric and create a collage of such patches.

The patches are between about 1.5 to about 9.5 cm wide and long.

Of course, the motifs can be sewn on classically by hand, then you are not limited to cotton fabrics. During the process of ironing on, make sure that small children should be out of the reach of the hot iron.

The following motifs are ready:

  • Sugar Skull
  • Cactus
  • Piñata
  • Avocado & Chili
  • Guitar
  • Sombrero
  • Taco
  • Rattles

The patches have a narrow white outer edge, which brings out the motifs even more on colored backgrounds. The detailed instructions on how to properly do the application by iron, you will find below in the tips.

Tips

This is the right way to do it!

In order for an iron-on patch to last, it is important to proceed carefully. Here are some important tips for a long-lasting attachment:

1. set the iron to the highest setting, but without activating the steam function. Don't forget to preheat the iron sufficiently before you start ironing.

2. lay the fabric, on which the picture is to be attached, as smoothly as possible on the base. Wrinkles and unevenness in the fabric can cause the adhesive not to adhere properly. This can cause the patch to warp and affect its durability.

3. Iron the area where the patch is to be placed briefly before actually ironing it on. This will remove any minor wrinkles and preheat the fabric.

4. Place the patch in the desired location on the garment. Make sure it lies smooth and straight to avoid wrinkles later. To protect the patch, you can place a thin cloth like sandwich paper, a cloth handkerchief or a kitchen towel over it.

5. Now take the hot iron and iron from the inside to the outside. Use only the tip of the iron and apply enough pressure. This will melt the glue in the transfer foil of the patch and turn it slightly brownish.

6. The ironing time should be about 20-30 seconds at medium pressure. Make sure you don't iron too short so that the fabric adhesive can really melt on the bottom and bond well with the backing. However, you should also not iron too long to avoid overheating the fabric. Special attention should be paid to the edges and tips of the patch.

7. After ironing, turn the garment over and iron from the bottom. This will create a better bond between the fabric and the patch.

Be sure to use a suitable surface when working with high heat. An ironing board with a smooth and high quality cover is very suitable for this.
